She had to stop this. She was acting like a foolish five year old, believing that prince charming was real and that she was Cinderella. No, the truth was that her prince was not a prince but one of the most caring gentlemen she’d ever met and it killed her to know it. Now she wished she hadn’t learned because he was already in love. All his happiness, all his smiles, all his kindness and that amazing glow that surrounded him was all because of that girl. For the first time in years Rainie was jealous of someone else. She wanted, no needed to be that girl, needed to be that one who made him happy. He was everything she’d ever wanted and she couldn’t even get near him now. Sure she’d talked to him a couple of times, she’d even go as far to say that they were possibly friends but nothing more. Now she knew for sure they could never be more and the realization made her chest tighten up to the point where breathing became hard.
She clutched her chest and kept her eyes on the road. Everything was blurry to her. Then she saw it, a quick blur of brown and white that froze in front of her car. Freaking she swerved to the left and the car when into a spin. Rainie sat terrified as she watched the scenery around her flash by over and over again. Suddenly the car came to a halt. She stared blankly at the figure in front of her car through tear filled eyes and a rain soaked wind shield. She watched as the dark slim figure slowly made its way around to the driver’s side. Jerking awake from her stupor she frantically reached for the locks and her cell phone at the same time. She managed to get phone just when they opened the door. She whipped around and smacked him in the hand with her hand. The figure grunted and gently grabbed her wrist then pulled her up against his body.
“Dammit Rainie, you nearly scared me to death.” He muttered in a low, strained voice. Liam. She clung to him shaking from her fear and the cold rain that had soaked his clothes. He’d saved her, he’d protected her, and he was here for her now when she needed someone the most. He was her best friend, and the best brother a girl could ask for. Feeling to comfort of being help in his arms opened the flood gates. A ragged tearing came from her lungs as she pushed closer to his soaked chilling frame.
“Shh, it’s ok now Rainie, I’m here.” he whispered as he kissed her forehead and gently rubbed her back. He squeezed his eyes shut as she continued to cry with large sobs sneaking out and the sky above them booming in time with each other. Liam damned the person responsible for her pain to the deepest, darkest, part of hell imaginable. He was so livid that he was ready to do murder. Rainie had never cried like this in her life and the sky showed testament to the dark twisted pain within her as a bolt of lightning struck down a tree not forty yards away. He needed to calm her down now before she got someone hurt.
“Rainie” he called softly as he grasped her shoulders and pushed her back slightly. She went limp in his hands and allowed him to move her. “Look at me Rainie.” he commanded softly. She looked up at him and the sight scared him. Her eyes looked as if they had glazed over; the only thing visible in them was the raw pain that possessed her.
“Come on.” he mumbled quietly as he picked her up and carried her to the passenger side of her car. He opened the door and laid her in the seat and buckled her in. Once he was in the driver seat he turned and saw her staring blankly at nothing. He angrily jerked the car into drive and headed toward the north part of town. After an interminably long period of silence Liam finally mumbled, “Fuck” and quickly veered off onto a different rode. He normally would have asked her first before taking her to his house but he didn’t think she could hear him let alone process what was happening right now.
Ten minutes later the car came to a stop in front of an old plantation style white house. Liam shut off the engine and pocketed the key. He glanced over and studied her. Rainie was finally breathing evenly and had seemed to stop crying because he could no longer hear her sobbing. She’d cried herself to sleep. That was a good thing but the fact that it was still pouring outside wasn’t. He sighed as he opened his door, walked around the car, opened the door, pulled her out and carried her inside.
“Welcome home Liam” a jovial sing-song voice called to him from the kitchen. He didn’t answer, he was far to pissed off and didn’t want to snap at the one person who’d saved his life. He gently laid Rainie down on the couch and slipped her wet jacket off.
“Liam?” called the voice again closer, most likely the hallway now. “Liam? Ah there you are.” She said as she came to stand in the door way. A worried look entered her eyes as she noticed his soaked clothes. “Liam…”
He shook his head and then nodded toward the couch. Her eyes followed his movement and then she gasped. “Oh my, poor thing.” she said worriedly as rushed over to kneel next to Rainie. After feeling her forehead and checking her over she turned to look up at Liam, “What happened to her dear?”
“I don’t know Marinea. I just knew something was wrong when it started pouring. So I went looking for her and I found her driving home. Then a stupid deer ran out in front of her and she swerved out of the way.” he rambled on. Marinea gasped and stared up at him in horror.
“Relax.” he assured her, “I stopped the car and made sure she was alright before bringing her here. She’s not hurt, at least not physically.” he muttered angrily.
Marinea smiled sadly as she rose and hugged him. “You are such a wonderful brother, you know that. I’m glad you found her and that you brought her here.” she said serenely turning from his grasp she stared down at Rainie than stated, “I’ll take her up stairs to the guest room.” She turned back to him then and patted his cheek. “I’ll take care of her now. Go and change before my living room becomes a pond.” He chuckled slightly at her small joke and nodded. He took one last look at Rainie and headed off to change, vowing to himself he would personally castrate the lowlife who did this to her.
So let me know what you think.
